NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter has completed its first flight on Mars, making it the first vehicle to attempt powered flight on another planet.

Ingenuity is thought to have flown for around 30 seconds and reached an altitude of 3 metres. The helicopter flew earlier this morning, but it will take time for data and images to be transmitted from Mars to confirm the full details.

“We’ve been talking so long about our Wright brothers moment on Mars, and here it is,” said MiMi Aung at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory …
